2021: Improved Upwork Proposal Templates
My Latest Freelance Proposal Templates for Common Client Styles That Should Work for Most Freelancers Most of the Time (If You Modify the Templates for Your Clients).
When I was a kid, I was in the car with my parents, staring out the window. We came up to a stop sign. I saw an animal on the side of the road not far from the tree line. Didn't know what it was, but I shouted, "Forest Beaver!" My parents, mid-conversation, fell silent... then they burst with laughter.
If you suck at writing proposals, this is for you. If you don't know what to say or how to say it to attract client attention, that's who I made these templates for.
When you don't get responses, it has nothing to do with there being too much competition. It has nothing to do with clients only wanting to pay low rates. It just means that the client does not think that you are the exact right person for the job. Mostly, that's because your proposals don't prove that you understand the client at a deeper level.
This document contains a series of proposal templates designed to work for some of the most common freelance client types. These templates are based on different client personality preferences to help you grab attention fast without spending hours figuring out exactly what to say.
For best results, read the client's job post carefully and pay attention for clues that tell you which template will work best for that client. Then modify the template so it fits the client's job post, and their specific problems. Make sense? Great! Then let's get started.

Basic YOU Focus Proposal
YOU Focus proposals are my cornerstone approach. This simple style works for most clients most of the time. If you're not a copywriter or don't have time for fancy stuff, then default to this template. It focuses on the client and their problem, and on quickly connecting your services as the right solution for that problem.

This proposal is for when you're not completely sure what the client's exact problem is, but you know the general thing they say they need help with. We then sign off with a signature they might remember, and add a P.S. statement to go a step beyond where other freelancers end their proposal. We want to let this client know that we are ready to serve them whenever they need us, even if that isn't right now.
